Sousourada

A very good suggestion for all hours of the day, Sousourada combines good-quality food with well-sorted materials. In its warm place, with its large glass windows and tables out, you will be served quality coffees, organic teas and fresh juices, full breakfast and brunch and vegetarian options. From 1pm Sousourada wears her culinary cap and offers a series of hot and cold dishes, pasta and varieties, along with very good spirits, a large list of Greek wines, selected foreign wines, drinks and cocktails.

Kimatothrafstis

The value for money option, with no compromise on the taste or the quality, Kimatothrafstis is a buffet restaurant extremely loved by the students of the area, the backpackers and everyone who is looking for a home-made meal on a budget. For €4 or €7 you can have from Greek to Thai, cooked by the owners of the restaurant daily and for sure you will leave with a smile and a full belly. If you miss your mama’s food during travelling, this is the place you were looking for.

Yiantes

A little bit more expensive that the rest of our suggestions, but trust us, it worth every penny. Yiantes is a modern Greek taverna that serves fresh sea food, tasty salads, and mouthwatering meat dishes, all made with local ingredients in a courtyard that will make you forget that you are in the center of Athens. Combine your dinner or lunch with one of the organic house wines you will find on their list for a fine dining experience.

Salero

For more than 10 years Salero is housed in a 1930’s Bauhaus building with a back yard that will leave you in awe. Here you can try Mediterranean cuisine, fresh pies, sea food and tapas, and apart from the main menu ask for the dishes of the day or for special menus that include full meals on a budget.  The list of wines includes Greek and international labels, and daily cocktail happy hours will surely prepare you for a dinner our of the ordinary.

Rozalia

We finally got to the most Greek restaurant of the street. Since 1978 this family-run taverna serves authentic Greek cuisine that includes grills, casseroles and cooked dishes. As soon as you seat in one of the tables of its beautiful garden one of the waiters will welcome you with a selection of different appetizers for you to choose so you don’t have to order with a totally empty stomach. Take your time in Rozalia, enjoy the environment and feel like a local.

Achilleas

A street food option couldn’t be missing from our list, and as soon as you arrive to the end of the culinary street of Valtetsiou you will see the tables outside Achilleas waiting for you. Souvlaki is probably the most well-known Greek food and tasting it during your stay in Athens is considered a must, maybe even more than once. Pork or chicken meat lover combine your souvlaki with a cold Greek beer for the perfect lunch break.
